STUCK
“I’m a sucker for a humorous, dialogue-driven, relationship film. Mix that with a plot pushed by a intercourse toy blunder and…oh my gosh, Corey Shurge…cease wanting by way of my Google search historical past!
Contemplating how usually they’re solid apart in a derisive vogue, rom-coms get a foul rep. In spite of everything, being in a relationship is a virtually common expertise, so movies that try to seize that, with intelligent banter and jokes, need to be way more than cinematic punching luggage. Caught takes a blue, probably gimmicky premise, and expands the joke into one thing deeper, constructing to a spot that’s surprisingly earnest and heartfelt.
Now, admittedly, that earnestness is perhaps a turnoff to some, particularly because the movie flirts with saccharine in its last half. However, in a world pushed by snark, I discovered the movie’s flip to be surprisingly candy. The transition from butt play to sincerity is patiently executed—pushed by two very strong performances from its stars, Kristopher Turner and Ruth Goodwin. As a two-hander (the movie fortunately avoids the low-hanging comedic fruit of them explaining the state of affairs to an incredulous nurse or physician), it’s depending on the chemistry between the performers, which is kind of sturdy right here. Turner and Goodwin are playful and dramatic in equal measure. The banter between them is witty and self-aware, however by no means feels too “written.” Furthermore, the opening scene is the right instance of a brief movie establishing “purchase in” early. Clearly, there’s the intercourse (an instantaneous, lizard-brain hook), however the dialogue and chemistry between actors engages instantly.” – S/W Curator, Ivan Kander
